I liked the "Blackwater" undertones in the pilot. I also like the two lead actors - I'm interested in hearing more about the cop who busted out of Orleans Parish Prison (yeah...hokey, but interesting). I wish the supervisor would lose his southern accent (which fades in and out, anyway). I wish someone actually had a Yat accent. Overall, I'll watch it again - it's fun to see the locations where they've shot.

Yeah, some stupid shit in there but overall not bad.
They need more local writers.
I wouldn't be sorry if it stayed on the air. Besides the TV moments (the aforementioned jailbreak cop, the drive-by fundraiser, etc.) there are some realistic themes about post-K New Orleans being explored (PTSD, the push-pull of staying to fight the good fight or get the fuck out of a crazy situation, the importance of home above all other things).

^ Yep, what Jonah said. Local writers would make it so much better.

Dude, I generally enjoyed the show.
Your's is the absolute best review I've read (and I've read several). Perfect. You nailed it.
BTW, my house didn't flood, but we were exiled for 6 weeks, and my 9-year-old daughter STILL freaks out every time it rains. That never happened when she was 6 or 7.

From a local's view, I enjoyed it!
I am from the St. Bernard area of New Orleans (9' of floodwater in my home). I drive through the lower 9th to get to work everyday. I think some things were well portrayed (i.e. accents, scenery, low tech police work, etc.). I think other things had the 'hollywood' factor put in, but overall I beleive it did a good job of setting the scene for series. I'm a big fan of police dramas and I really enjoyed seeing one set at home.
Extra Thoughts:
"i bought it with two fema checks":
Alot of locals did use FEMA money for things they shouldn't have... ask any electonics store sales man... but then again if it was lost in the storm, shouldn't it be replaced (up for debate??)
"the storm was a cleansing":
I have heard this term used to describe some areas of the city, do I agee... No, but some people looked at it this way.

"The storm was cleansing"
I was at Mayor Nagin's first town hall meeting after the storm. Throwing the seperation of church and state to the wind (pardon the pun) he began the meeting with Rev. What's-her-name giving a prayer in which she said (and this is a direct quote as I best recall it) "Heavenly Father, we know that Hurricane Katrina was about CLEANSING AND PURGING!"
I remember thinking "Cleansing whom and purging what?????"
