SXSW Day 2: Social Responsibility and Design
* intro
* making things cool AND accessible
* empower people and deal with the issue of People. Design for Humans.
* who's responsible for the waste of time, energy and patience?
* technology is stressign us out.
* iWant_something _else (iPod)
* programs and platforms don't work the same way.
* check out processes not designed well
* why "clear" buttons on forms?
* why Start button turns off the PC?
* new technologies created to fix broken technologies, etc. etc.
* "change the way you look at things and the things you look at change."
* don't accept the failures of design. grassroots design activism. demand change and start with the small things. demand of your team, your clients, yourself.
* think like your User.
* stay from visuals. write first, play, explain, then design.
* we all think we are doing great work.
* "the unfinished revolution" book
* technology should be a utility (like water, electricity). More than useful but people need and want.
* technology should be simple.
* technology should be ubiquitous

* there can be a balance of Accessible, Design, Interactive
* Flash can be accessible
* IDEA '97 : disabled students put into mainstream. but mainstream does not deal with the accessibility all the time.
* technology can level the playing field for disabled users. they need it to help them get upper hand.
* not just a business case, a human case -> sell corporate responsibilty. or do we have to rely on the Law. Or just do it stealth.
* those who are interested in accessibility, who are socially conscious, don't know how to make accessible.
